Dorothy Veronica (Susan) “Nana” Nee, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Annie (Cleveland) Susan.
Dorothy was raised in Boston's "Southie" neighborhood, where she married the love of her life, Patrick P. Nee, on September 15, 1951, at Saint Augustine Church. She and Patrick first made their home in South Boston, and after welcoming her children, Dorothy took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. While Dorothy was focused on raising her children, she did work in several part-time positions, helping to provide the "little extras" that her family enjoyed. Dorothy later moved her family to the Dorchester neighborhood before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts in 1969. While living in Walpole, the "little extras" that Dorothy provided turned into bigger projects around the home, including the installation of a swimming pool. In the early 1980s, Dorothy took a full-time position with Telco Systems in Norwood, working as an assembler until her retirement in 1995.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was incredibly intelligent and loved keeping her mind sharp. She completed countless crossword puzzles, mathematical brain teasers, and more recently enjoyed playing logic games on her tablet. As an avid reader, Dorothy enjoyed getting lost in the storyline of a romance novel and was thrilled to exchange recommended books with her family. Not only was her mind active, but Dorothy's hands were rarely still. Her crafting skills were nothing short of amazing, using multiple materials to make wonderful creations, many of which she gave to family and friends. Her sewing skills were honed over the years, fixing many of her children's clothes and later blossoming into creating needlepoint works to hang around her home. Dorothy also enjoyed working with yarn to crochet an afghan, keeping those she loved warm. She was also known for her Christmas ornaments, gifting them to her children and grandchildren, so they could all have a piece of her love with them during the holiday season. Dorothy's art skills did not end with her crafts, as she regularly picked up a pencil or brush to put the images in her mind to canvas.
Dorothy experienced so much during her life, but it was her resiliency that always carried her through every moment of testing, bringing her back to the joy and happiness she felt when surrounded by her family. Her love and care for her family is unmatched, truly a gift that she was able to share with those closest to her.
