Dorothy "Dorry" (Barry) McNamara, age 89, passed away at home on September 9, 2015, following a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Born in Charlestown, Massachusetts on April 5, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Laurence and Elizabeth Barry. She was raised in Roslindale and graduated from Roslindale High School with the class of 1943.
Dorry met her future husband, William J. McNamara, and they we married on April 19, 1949. They lived in Newton, Massachusetts for a brief time before settling in West Roxbury, where she raised her family.
In 1967, she took a position with the New England Telephone Company as an operator. She retired in 1986 and became a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
After moving to Walpole, Massachusetts in 2000, Dorry became very involved in her new community. She was a devoted communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and was a founding member of the Dela Pond Book Club. She enjoyed staying active, frequently attending exercise classes at the Italian American Club, and as an avid walker, she belonged to the Walpole Walk Along Group at Bird Park.

Devoted mother of William McNamara and his wife Diana, of Dedham; Joan Pena and her husband Thomas, of South Yarmouth; Diane McNamara and her husband Tucker Swan of Wellesley; Thomas McNamara and his wife Molly of Hyde Park; Claire Morrone and her husband Frank of Walpole; Lois Walsh and her husband John of Walpole. Loving grandmother of Robin (McNamara) Lidington, Will and Jamie McNamara, Gregory and David Pena, Paige and Dana Morrone, John Thomas (JT), Natalie, and Steven Walsh. Dear sister of George Barry and his wife Janice of Waltham, and sister of the late Laurence Barry, Anne Kenney, Fr. Thomas Barry, and Robert Barry. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and by her dear childhood friend Lillian McCloskey of Norwood.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dorry's Life Celebration on Sunday, September 13, 2015 from 2-6 PM and Monday, September 14, 2015 from 11-11:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Monday, September 14, 2015 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place privately in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorry's memory to: Arthritis Foundation of MA, 29 Crafts Street, Suite 450, Newton, MA 02458.
