Dorothy Jackson

December 18, 1924 — August 7, 2013

Dorothy (Gillis) Jackson passed away on August 7th, 2013 after a brief illness. Born on 18 December 1924 in Norwood, Massachusetts, she was the oldest of two children born to John Harry Gillis and Sarah (Martin) Gillis of Walpole, MA. On this day she joins her husband, Thomas Guy Jackson, who passed from this earth on 1 September 1998 after celebrating together 54 years of marriage. Surviving are their six children, Susan Jackson, Eileen Perreault, Dr. Mark Jackson, Kevin Jackson, Sean Jackson, and Joseph J. Jackson. In addition to her children and their spouses, Dorothy leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.

In addition to her husband Thomas and their family, Dorothy loved Walpole and spent 23 years of her life in service to the town and its citizens, first as a librarian and later as the Town Treasurer, an elected position that she held for many years, and finally as Director of Personnel. She is remembered fondly by her family and friends for her kind, compassionate, and generous nature, her love of books, fine food, gardening, and adventure, her positive attitude and sense of humor, and most of all her willingness to help those in need. Dorothy understood and held in esteem the virtue and value of education and life-long learning. With this in mind, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her memory to Walpole High School's scholarship fund so that together we might perpetuate her legacy of service to the citizens of the town she loved so much.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dorothy's Life Celebration on Sunday, August 11, 2013 from 2-6 PM and Monday, August 12, 2013 from 8-8:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church 10 Diamond Street Walpole on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 9AM. Interment will be in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
