Doris E. (McMorrow) Grindle, age 94, passed away peacefully in her daughter's Walpole, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Whitman, Massachusetts on December 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late William Francis and May E. (Thurston) McMorrow. She was raised in Whitman and graduated from Whitman High School with the Class of 1939. She continued her education at Bridgewater State College earning her Bachelor's Degree in 1943.
After graduation, Doris settled in Walpole, Massachusetts after taking a teaching position in the Walpole Public School System. While working in the Walpole Schools, Doris earned her Master's Degree in 1954. She became a member of the United Church, where she met her husband to be, Edward E. Grindle. They were married in the church on February 15, 1958 and made their home together in Walpole.
Over the course of her teaching career, Doris became very involved with the teacher's union and the educational foundation, Delta Kappa Gamma. She retired in 1983 as the Head of the English Department of Walpole High School with 38 years of dedicated service to the students of Walpole.
In her retirement, Doris enjoyed volunteering for several organizations. She operated a van for local agencies, driving the area elderly to various appointments. After moving full time to Monponsett in 1989, she became very involved with the Hanson Senior Center and Council on Aging, where she organized many trips for the members. As an avid singer, she was also a member of the Hanson Senior Chorus. She volunteered her time to help with many different programs in the area. Her love for teaching led to volunteer tutoring children in the Hanson area in both reading and writing.
Doris enjoyed music, and in addition to her love of singing, she was a member of the United Church's Handbell Choir for many years. She loved gardening and wild flowers and writing poetry. She also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and traveling. Some of her most memorable trips included Alaska, Hawaii, Iceland, Europe and Panama.

Cherished grandmother of Christa Pellowe of Walpole.
Sister of the late Ruth McMorrow, Charles McMorrow and Allen McMorrow.
Aunt of Andrea Pagnani of Holbrook and Steven McMorrow of Arkansas.
Also survived by her beloved and devoted cat, Charlene.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Doris' Life Celebration on Monday, October 3, 2016 from 4-7 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Funeral Service will be held in the United Church, 30 Common Street, Walpole on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Doris E. Grindle Scholarship Fund, checks may be made payable to Walpole Public Schools, 275 Common Street, Walpole, MA. Attention Deb Wolfe.
