Dora M. Bushway

December 7, 1923 — March 30, 2009

Dora (Sis) Bushway passed away Monday morning at the Englewood Community Hospital. She will be missed by a large and loving circle of family, friends and neighbors in both the Englewood and Walpole, MA communities as well as the Norwood Caritas and Englewood hospitals where she volunteered.

Dora retired from the Walpole school system in 1982 where she was high school and elementary school secretary. Since then, she and her husband, the late Warren Chamberlain Bushway enjoyed 23 years between the family home on Stone Street in Walpole and winters in Englewood on Leach Street and later, Oleander Street until Warren's passing in March 20, 2005. Dora loved the Bay Vista Boulevard neighborhood and was regularly seen, a stalwart member of the "dog walkers", getting their late afternoon constitutional through the neighborhood with Schi-tzus "Suzie" and then "Jasmine". Also, in retirement, Dora was a member of the "Red Hat Society" and the Marines Veterans Association.

Dora was born in Malden, Mass, the fraternal twin daughter of Leona and George Frances Kenney. She grew up in Stoneham, lost her father when 14 and sold butter and eggs in the family business during the depression. That didn't stop her from being a high school cheerleader. She joined the Marine "Waves" after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and was stationed in San Diego. After the war, she went to work for Bell Telephone as an Operator. She fell in love with Warren on Wingasheek Beach and married him on June 26, 1948.

Dora's love of her family and friends knew no bounds. She braided rugs, knit all manner of warm clothing, made clothing, did needlepoint, was an avid reader and beachgoer and navigated the mothering of 4 loving sons with aplomb. She was active in the United Church of Walpole and the United Methodist Church of Englewood.

She is pre-deceased by her twin brother Donald Trenholm and younger sister, Wanda Lee MacPherson. She leaves her four sons and their wives, Stephen and Phoebe Bushway and their children, Hannah (of Boston) and Mason of Plainfield, MA; Scott and Tammy Bushway and their children Brandon and Justin of Falmouth, MA; Robert and Julie Bushway and their children Jack and Ethan, of Walpole, and Mark and Mary Bushway and their children, Hillary, Cameron, and Todd, of Norfolk, MA., Donald's wife, Norma and Wanda's husband, Harry, of Englewood, and her sister-in-law, Beverly Bushway of Sarasota, several nephews and nieces and their families.

A memorial service will be held at the United Church 30 Common St. Walpole on Saturday, April 18th at 2 PM.
