Donald E. Chisholm age 86 years died in the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Masachusetts on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 15, 1924; he was the son of the late Colin and Mary (MacDonald) Chisholm. He graduated from Hyde Park High School with the class of 1942. After high school, Mr. Chisholm was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during World War II. He served in the European Theatre and took part in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant and had earned the Bronze Star. He has been a resident of Walpole, Massachusetts for the past 55 years moving there from Roslindale.
Mr. Chisholm worked as a compositor first for the Hyde Park Tribune and later for the Catholic Newspaper, The Pilot. He retired in 1994 with over 30 years of experience. Mr. Chisholm was a member of the typographical union.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed gardening; but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Beloved husband of Genevieve M. (Nulick) Chisholm. Loving father of Virginia Smith of College Station, Texas, Kathleen Huntington of Worcester, and Jeanne McElfresh of Palo Alto, California. Cherished grandfather of 6 and great grandfather of 1. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and a brother.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Timothy's Church 650 Nichols Street Norwood on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours are Monday, January 17, 2011 from 2-6PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment is in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury.
