Donald M. Chambers

August 12, 1936 — October 4, 2016

Donald M. Chambers, age 80, passed away in Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Donald L. and Marion H. (Higgins) Chambers. He was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and later moved with his family to Sharon, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Sharon High School with the Class of 1954. As a young man, he enjoyed summering in Rockport and visiting Revere Beach often with his cousin, Marion. Donald developed a love for politics at a young age and was a devoted member of the Democratic Town Committee in Sharon for many years. He continued learning about politics at Northeastern University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in History and Government in 1959. In an effort to support himself throughout his years at Northeastern, Donald worked as an assistant caretaker at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Sharon.

While in college, Donald also worked at the Joseph Keating Funeral Home in Sharon, and went on to earn his funeral director's license. He later owned and operated a livery company, worked as a tax preparer and spent some time in Real Estate. In 1964, Donald took a position with General Motors in their Parts Department located in Westwood. In addition to working a full time position with GM, he took a part time position driving a school bus in the Town of Sharon. While maintaining a full schedule, Donald took time to join the Free Masons with the Lafayette-Dover Lodge in Norwood.

Donald married his wife, Carol Peterson, on June 10, 1988 and after spending a short time in Sharon, they made their home together in Foxborough, where they raised their family. He retired from General Motors in 2000, however maintained his position driving school buses, now in the Town of Foxborough.

Donald had a love for the classics, whether an antique car, specifically Cadillacs, or music from the 40's and 50's. Donald also enjoyed spending time at Horseneck Beach and Martha's Vinyard with his family. He continued his childhood tradition of spending time during the summer in Rockport, introducing the town to his wife and children.

Beloved husband of Carol (Peterson) Chambers.
Loving father of Lauren K. Chambers of Foxborough, Melanie R. Chambers of Dedham, and Morgan V. Chambers of Attleboro.
Cherished cousin of Marion Ghidella-McKeag and her four daughters, Janet, Susan, Lori, and Robyn.
Loyal friend to Sheldon E. Small.
