Dennis-Paul S. Vernazzarro

September 16, 1942 — June 29, 2014

Dennis-Paul S. "Doc Z" Vernazzarro, age 71, died in his Norwood, Massachusetts home surrounded by his family, on Sunday, June 29, 2014, after a brief illness. Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts on September 16, 1942, he was raised in Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1962. He has been a resident of Norwood since 1978.

He began his career as a reporter for the Dedham Transcript, covering the local high school sports. He loved to watch and report on football and soccer, both professional and high school. He later became the color commentator for the Walpole High School Rebel Football Team on the radio. He had his own radio show on WDIS in Norfolk, playing the oldies and a sports program covering football and soccer.

His love of the oldies moved him to collected many LP records signed by the orginial artists. Most recentley he and his wife Carole would go to the local coffee shops, enjoy a cup of coffee and work on crossword puzzles. Everone knew it was Doc coming when they saw his trademark coffee mug on the table or mostly in hand. An avid player of the lottery and a reader of the Walpole Times, he and Carole would play the Walpole Watcher every week. In addition, he was a member of the Bay State Antique Auto Club, where he served on many committees.

Beloved husband of Carole A. (Taylor) Vernazzarro. Loving step father of John McKenzie of Norwood, Debra Alger of Walpole, and Karen McKenzie of Walpole. Father of Dennis-Paul Vernazzaro of Las Vegas and Dion Vernazzaro of Georgia. Also survived by a brother and 2 sisters.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Doc's Life Celebration on Sunday, July 6, 2014 from 1-5 PM and Monday, July 7, 2014 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or the charity of your choice.
