David E. Welch, age 86, passed away in the Norwood Hospital on Sunday, May 8, 2016. Born in Framingham, Massachusetts on July 20, 1929, he was the son of the late David E. and Mary A. (Lumbert) Welch. He was raised in Walpole, graduating from Walpole High School with the Class of 1947.
After graduation, Dave took a position with Walpole Woodworkers and in 1950, he married his wife Alice Barbara Maker. They made their home initially on Elm Street in Walpole before moving to North Street to raise their young family. Dave left the Woodworkers to begin his 40 year long career working for the Town of Walpole's Department of Public Works in the Highway Division. He also maintained a small side business of repairing and selling Ford Model T's. Sadly, Dave's wife Barbara passed in 1994 and after selling his home on North Street, he settled on Main Street.
In 2011, after meeting Carol Meears, Dave moved to Union Street in East Walpole. Almost immediately, he fell in love with Carol's beloved dog, Sunshine or as they affectionately called him Pup-Pup. Dave and Carol were married on May 9, 2015 and moved to Norwood shortly there after.
Dave enjoyed fishing, reading, and working on crossword puzzles. He an Carol enjoyed dining at various area restaurants together as well as travling to Maine, visiting Bailey's Island and Ogunquit.
Beloved husband of Carol Elizabeth (Meears) Welch and the late Barbara (Maker) Welch.
Loving father of Edward F. Welch and his wife Laurie of Wrentham and Marion Welch of Foxboro.
Cherished grandfather of Penny Welch of Worcester.
Step father of Ellen Hart and her husband Tom of East Walpole, David Meears and his husband Wayne Fleury of Malden, and Paul Meears and his wife Nina of Hingham.
Step grandfather of Jennifer Hart of Weymouth, Jacquelyn Hart of Norwood, Thomas Hart of Walpole, Joseph Hart of Millis, and Ashley Benson and her husband Kevin of Plainville.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Dave's Life Celebration on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 4-8 PM and Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Parish, 270 Elliot Street, Newton on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow in Rural Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Boys Town, PO Box 8000, Boys Town, NE 68010.
