David J. O'Brien

September 10, 1941 — October 19, 2011

David J. O'Brien age 70 years died in his Kingston, Massachusetts home on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 10, 1941; he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret (Jenkins) O'Brien. He graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School with the class of 1959. He later attended Lowell Tech. He has been a resident of Kingston since 1987 moving there from Walpole, Massachusetts.

He worked as an engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Department. He retired in 2004 with 40 years of service. He also drove a bus for the Plymouth and Brockton Bus Company. Most recently he was a contracts manager for Sealcaoting, Inc in Hingham.

Mr. O'Brien was a member of the M.O.S.E.S union and the Mass Retirees.

He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following football and NHRA Drag Racing. He was a Hot Rod enthusiast, an avid reader, and a World War II Historian. He will be remembered for his generosity and his willingness to always lend a hand.

Beloved husband of Janet M. (Fitzgibbons) O'Brien. Loving father of Patrick J. O'Brien and his wife Judy of Walpole. Cherished grandfather of Isabella, Aiden, and Marco. Brother of Peter O'Brien of Foxborough,Margaret MacKay of Walpole, and Charlene Martel of Brockton. Former husband of Grace (Madden) O'Brien of North Attleboro. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at Saint Catherine's Church Washington Street at Nahatan Street Norwood on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 9AM. Visiting hours are Friday, October 21, 2011 from 4-8PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to: The Animal Care Fund C/O Town of Kinston Animal Shelter 28 Evergreen St. Kingston, MA 02364.
