David L. Garney

November 28, 1945 — August 27, 2015

David L. Garney, age 69, passed away in the Charlwell House in Norwood, Massachusetts on Thursday, August 27, 2015. Born on November 28, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Francis H. and Margaret (Kennedy) Garney. He was raised in South Boston before his family moved to Foxborough, Massachusetts. Dave graduated from Foxborough High School with the class of 1966, where he was a member of the track team.

After graduation, Dave took a position as a machinist with the Masoneilan Valve Company in Canton and became a member of the UAW, Local 470. He retired with over 40 years of service.

Dave moved to Stoughton and met his wife Claire Marie Bouin, they were married on July 19, 1984. They settled in North Easton, and loved spending time together at Claire's family cottage in Maine, where Dave enjoyed taking long walks on the beach.

Dave was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) 1011 in North Attleboro and, alongside his wife, was a member of the Alaskan Malamute Club and the Heritage Keeshond Club. After his wife's passing, Dave's love for animals continued and he loved taking long walks with his family dog, Sammy, who Dave lovingly nick named Sammy P. Tangles.

He loved the New England Patriots and was a season ticket holder for many years and also enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox. As an avid bowler, he belonged to a bowling league in Attleboro.

Most of all, Dave cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time at the Tahana Restaurant in Mansfield and eating out at Finnegans Wake and the 204 Washington Street Restaurant in Walpole. After becoming a member of the McGuire family, Dave especially loved spending time with Connor Recco, and was affectionately known as Papa G.

He will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful gentleman, who lived his life with principle, dignity, and respect.

Beloved husband of the late Claire M. (Bouin) Garney.
Loving brother of James Garney of Pocasset, Donna Savery of East Sandwich, Marie Sprowl of Pembroke, and the late Frank Garney.
Loving and devoted companion of Valerie McGuire of East Walpole and her daughters, Shannon McGuire Recco and Lyndsey McGuire.
Cherished Papa G to Connor Recco.
Also survived by his oldest and dearest friend Billy Gatulis of North Attleboro and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
