David Joseph Farrell

David Joseph Farrell, age 89, of Sharon, MA passed away on July 10, 2023, at his home in Sharon, Massachusetts. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on March 3, 1934, he was the son of the late William and Anne (Foley) Farrell.  David was raised in Brighton, Massachusetts and graduated from the prestigious Saint Columbkille High School, also in Brighton, Massachusetts, with the Class of 1951. David graduated from Boston College with his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1955. Following graduation, he worked for Sylvania designing defense systems. He spent 43 years at Harvard University working throughout their financial systems departments. 

David met his wife, Judith Helen Mara, on a blind date in November of 1969. They were committed from the start and the pair were married on March 29, 1970, at the Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham, Massachusetts. David and Judy made their married home in Waltham and welcomed their daughter Caroline, two years later in 1972. In 1973, the family moved to Wellesley to accommodate their growing family. 

In 2005 David and Judy moved to the beautiful town of Walpole, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed quiet small town living after many years of the hustle and bustle of city life. The couple lived there until 2018, when they moved to the Care One Assisted Living Facility in Sharon to enjoy their golden years. 

Throughout his life, David was an active individual. He enjoyed Square Dancing and was a long-time member of the Square Riggers of Wellesley, one of the oldest continuously running square dance clubs in the country. David also enjoyed time on the green golfing, and in his recent years, playing corn hole. He took advantage of all the activities that Care One had to offer, participating in exercise classes and keeping fit at the gym. Like a true New Englander, David was a Boston sports fan, cheering on professional and collegiate teams alike.

He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He loved being “Silly Uncle Dave” to Bill and Renee Farrell, Roberta and Jim Shriver, Caroline and Paul Fechtelkotter, Julie and Jim Collins, and Anne and John Loret and all his great nieces and nephews. 
David is preceded in death by four siblings, William Patrick Farrell Jr., Paul R. Farrell, Robert J. Farrell, and Elizabeth A. Granfield.

Relatives and friends are invited to join David’s family for a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 59 Cottage Street, Sharon. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David’s name can be made to the Environmental Law and Justice Clinic, Golden Gate University School of Law, 536 Mission St., San Francisco, CA 94105.
