David Philip Comeau, age 72, passed away peacefully in his Sharon, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Philip L. and Esther M. (Martin) Comeau. He spent his early years in West Roxbury, where he developed his love for the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox, before his family settled in Sharon, Massachusetts in 1952. David graduated from Sharon High School with the Class of 1962 and took a position working alongside his best friend, Arthur Kelley, at a local farm. Outside of work, one of his favorite pastimes was roller skating in Pembroke with friends.
In 1967, as the Vietnam War had escalated, David enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly and honorably served his country over the course of the next four years. While stationed in Thailand, he met his soon to be wife Paula, and they were married on November 14, 1969 in Bangkok. He was honorably discharged in 1971, after earning the rank of Specialist.
Upon his discharge from the Army, David and Paula returned to his hometown of Sharon, Massachusetts and David took an accounting position with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the Department of Education. As a young father, he took an active role in his children's lives, supporting his daughter in gymnastics and dance, serving as a little league coach and participating with his sons in their Boy Scout activities. David was an avid camper and loved taking his family camping at Burlingame State Park in Rhode Island, where they would meet up with his extended family.
While he always supported his children in all of their activities, David regularly filled his social calendar. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Foxboro. David was a member of the local bowling league at PJ's Lanes in Walpole, volunteering in the children's leagues. He later became a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) in Norwood. At the Elks club in Norwood, he enjoyed playing bocce and teaching cribbage to kids.
As his family grew with the addition of grandchildren, David supported each one of them in their various activities, just as he did with his own children. After his retirement in 2004 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, he had more time to spend with his 8 grandchildren, time that he truly treasured. David was a true patriot and eagerly looked forward to the 4th of July every year. Watching the fireworks with his family was a time honored tradition.
