Daniel M. Moriarty, age 91, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the Hulitar Hope Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence, Rhode Island. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 30, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Mary (O'Connor) Moriarty. He was raised in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood and graduated from Boston English High School with the Class of 1950. Following his graduation, Dan took a position in a local leather shop, shaping leather into jackets.
Dan married his beloved wife, Dorothy Regina Reilly, on April 24, 1955. Together they made their home in South Boston, before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts four years later, in 1959. Dan's career brought him to Boston Edison, interviewing for a lineman's position. After earning the position, Dan spent many years working the lines before being promoted to Safety Training Supervisor. Following his retirement in 1994, Dan returned to the Edison, serving as a consultant for the company.
After his wife's passing in 2005, Dan found companionship with Eileen Crowley. The two were married on September 30, 2006, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole. Dan and Eileen continued to make their home in Walpole but looked forward to spending the winter months in Naples, Florida.
Throughout his life, Dan was deeply religious and devoted to his church, Blessed Sacrament, in Walpole. He volunteered for countless positions, whether sitting on a board or helping out with one of the church's many events throughout the year. For his dedication to Blessed Sacrament Church, Dan was granted the Cheverus Medal, given by Boston Cardinal Sean Patrick O'Malley at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on November 24, 2019.
Dan loved to travel, enjoying many trips throughout the United States and Europe. His domestic travels brought him to many Civil War sites, brushing up on his history and collecting artifacts from the battle fields of Gettysburg. Abroad, he found his favorite destinations to be Ireland and Amsterdam, visiting both places multiple times. Dan quickly found one of his favorite ways to travel was on the deck of a cruise ship, and looked forward to the Viking Cruise through Europe and was always excited to explore new destinations on board a ship leaving from his winter home in Florida. Back on land, Dan could be found circling the track at Walpole High School, walking through the downtown area of Walpole, or taking laps around his neighborhood in Naples. He put on multiple miles every day, and loved chatting with friends and neighbors along the way.
Most of all, Dan was a devoted family man. Nothing made him happier than when he was surrounded by all those he loved so much. He was delighted to welcome his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who could always bring a smile to his face. Dan's family was truly everything to him.
