Daniel Macero

Dr. Daniel Macero, age 89, passed away at Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 26, 2018. Born in Revere, Massachusetts on November 19, 1928, he was the son of the late Antonio and Anna (Capadano) Macero. He was raised in Somerville, graduating from Somerville High School with the Class of 1946. After graduation, Daniel continued his studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning his Bachelor's Degree in 1951.

Daniel married his beloved wife, Jeanette DiRusso, on June 14, 1952 in Revere. Daniel continued on taking classes to earn his Master's Degree at the University of Vermont. After completing his Master's program in 1953, Daniel enrolled in the PhD program at the University of Michigan, earning his Doctoral Degree in 1959. The young couple made their home in Syracuse, NY in 1959.

Daniel spent 36 years at Syracuse University. He was a tenured chemistry professor, the Dean of Chemistry and Professor Emeritus. His passion was teaching both undergraduate and graduate students. He was a pioneer in the use of computers and robotics in the laboratory funded in part with grants from the American Chemical Society. He was also an early advocate and overseer of the Project Advance chemistry program and its outreach to high school students and future chemists. After a long and successful career, he retired in 1995.

In 2000, Daniel and Jeanette settled in Medfield, Massachusetts to be closer to their family. After Jeanette's passing in 2011, Daniel moved into the community of New Pond Village in Walpole.

Beloved husband of the late Jeanette (DiRusso) Macero.

Loving father of Diana Mileszko and her husband John of Medfield and Peter Macero and his wife Mona of Waban.

Cherished grandfather of Alison and John Mileszko, Miles and Savannah Macero and Philip Silva.

Brother in law of Diana Antonucci and her husband Michael of Lynn, MA.

Daniel is predeceased by brothers Salvatore of Lakeland, FL, Anthony of Peabody, and Robert of Saugus.
