Clifford C. Cottrell

September 17, 1917 — May 14, 2010

Clifford C. Cottrell age 92 died on May 14, 2010. He was a member of the Plainville Beagle Club and Tri County Beagle Club. Cliff has been a resident of Walpole since 1945. He grew up in Norwood, Massachusetts and was the son of the late Squire and Theora (Hartshorn) Cottrell. For 35 years, until his retirement in 1979, he was an instructor at the Norfolk County Agricultural High School.

Cliff and his wife bought a small farm in South Walpole where in the early years he raised ducks, chickens, geese, a steer, and a table garden which provided food throughout the year for a growing family. He also raised corn, strawberries, and tomatoes for sale. When the freight train on the Wrentham branch used to run through the back yard, the crew would throw off an order in the AM for corn or berries and stop in the PM to pick up the order.

The big love of Cliff's life was raising beagle hounds and running them at field trials in competitions. Some of his stock is located in Michigan, Wisconsin, New York, and other states and has produced several champions. In the 50s and 60s he did a great deal of judging at these trials.

Mr. Cottrell is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 68 years, his children Warren, Andrew, and Sandra, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at 10AM with Fr. William Eddy presiding. Visiting hours are Monday, May 17, 2010 from 4-8PM. Interment at Rural Cemetery in Walpole will be private.
