Claire Marie Songin

Claire Marie (Welch) Songin, age 84 years, died in the Ellis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Norwood, Massachusetts on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Born in Norwood on April 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late John Patrick and Ellen "Nellie" (Reagan) Welch. She graduated from Norwood High School with the class of 1947. She has been a resident of Walpole for the past 65 years moving from Norwood.

Claire spent her adult life as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family; and along with her husband, Walter, helped to operate the Walpole VFW Post 5188.

She loved playing bingo, singing, playing cards, and traveling to Arizona. She also enjoyed knitting and creating braided rugs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Beloved wife of the late Walter H. Songin. Loving mother of John "Jack" Songin of Norwood, Mary Frisbee, Thomas Songin both of Walpole, Jeanne Moores of Norwood, Carol Corcoran of East Walpole, Timothy Songin of Walpole, Judie O'Reilly of Salisbury, and Walter H. Songin, Jr. of Walpole. Cherished grandmother of 25 and great grandmother of 25. Sister of Jean Dion of Norwood, Elizabeth Foster of East Walpole, Mary Ellen Lloyd of Norwood and the late Brenda Welch.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Claire's Life Celebration on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 from 4-8 PM and Wednesday, February 26, 2014 from 8-8:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary's Church 176 Washington Street, East Walpole on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at 9:00 AM. Interment will be in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude's Childrens Hospital, 252 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the VA Hospital, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.
