Charles J. McLaughlin (Charlie), at the age of 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Walpole Massachusetts. Born in Boston, August 5, 1929, he was the son of the late James and Victoria (Jeffery) McLaughlin. Charlie was raised in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, where he graduated from Saint Columbkille's High School. Following his graduation, Charlie enlisted in the United States Army, proudly and honorably serving his country during the Korean War. Upon his return home to Brighton, Charlie took a position with the Carpenter's Union, working alongside his brother, James.
Charlie married his beloved wife, Camilla M. Regan, on September 8, 1956, at Saint Columbkille's Church in Brighton. The young couple initially made their home in Brighton, where the two oldest children were born. As they welcomed their children, Charlie and Camilla left the city behind, settling in the quiet town of Walpole, where they would raise their 7 children. After moving into their home on Old Post Road, Charlie quickly found work with some local construction companies before setting off on his own. He would soon form Charles J. McLaughlin Builder, Inc. Throughout his career, Charlie found work for all of his children on his job sites, and in the early 1980s, he took on his son, Rick, on a full-time basis, rebranding as Charles J. McLaughlin and Son Builder, Inc. Charlie worked hard throughout his career, ensuring his customers were always satisfied with his work. He retired in 2000, after countless years of dedication to his trade and many houses built.
While he worked hard, Charlie looked forward to gathering with family and friends, traveling to Marshfield MA and Middleton NH on holiday weekends. An avid supporter of the community, he was a crossing guard for the Town of Walpole. He joined the Elks in 1982 where he volunteered his time at senior homes, helping with the disabled, and taking on official rolls, serving as the Exalted Ruler at the Norwood Elks. Furthering his service, he was also a member of the Walpole Knights of Columbus Council, 1319. While at home, Charlie enjoyed watching birds at the feeders and was an avid reader. His favorite authors would include James Patterson, Tom Clancy, and Dean Koontz. Most of all, Charlie enjoyed going out to breakfast, frequent visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the company of dogs.
