C. William Hagblom

March 1, 1916 — December 10, 2008

Chief C. William Hagblom, age 92 years, formerly of Walpole and South Dennis died in the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire on Wednesday Morning, December 10, 2008. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on March 1st, 1916 , to his parents Carl and Ester (Johnson) Hagblom. He attend Hebron Academy in Maine on a hockey scholarship with the hopes of being a lawyer, but during the depression, he was unable to get the scholarships to continue, so he returned to Walpole and graduated from Walpole High School with the Class of 1934.

He entered the United States Army and served his country during World War II

Upon his return from the service, he entered law enforcement, first as a patrolman for the Town of Walpole, and he was appointed Chief of Police in 1961 and served till 1974. During his tenure major changes occurred in law enforcement across the country. With Chief Hagblom's help the department grew to 32 sworn officers, who were better educated and trained.

Chief Hagblom was a member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police and a Past President of that organization. A member of the International Chief of Police Association. A volunteer for the Salvation Army.

Beloved husband of the late Mary (Hrenchuk) Hagblom Loving father of Diane Mackie of Merrimack, New Hampshire Cherished grandfather of William C. Mackie, II of Milford, New Hampshire, and Tonja L. LaTraverse of Candia, New Hampshire. Great Grandfather of Amber LaTraverse. Brother of Lillian Dana of Canton, the late Frederick Hagblom, the late Olga McDonald, the late Doris Alexander and the late Gladys Mason.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the James H. Delaney and Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole on Saturday Morning, December 13, 2008 at 11AM. Visiting hours are Friday afternoon from 3pm to 7pm. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park Canton.
