Brigid Wood

October 4, 1940 — May 24, 2017

Brigid (Jordan) Wood, age 76, passed away peacefully in the Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, Massachusetts on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Born in Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland on October 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Margaret (Aherne) Jordan. She was raised and educated in England during World War II. After graduation, Brigid found work as an actress, model, and dancer, before taking a position with Birds Eye Frozen Food as an associate bookkeeper.

As a young woman, Brigid loved to travel and on one of her trips to Costa Del Sol, Spain, she met her husband to be, Alan Wood. They were married on June 4, 1967 in Peterborough, England. After spending two years living in England, Alan and Brigid immigrated to the United States of America, settling in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1969. In 1971, after welcoming their son Mark, the young family moved to Foxborough, Massachusetts, before purchasing their home on North Street Circle in Walpole. Throughout her life, Brigid took great pride in the care of her home. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending to her vegetable garden as well as the flower beds around her house. Brigid always made sure her landscaping was beautiful and her green thumb ensured that her perennials came back every year.

After Brigid raised her son and he was enrolled in school, she took a part time cashier's position at Heartland in Walpole. The part time job quickly evolved into a full-time position and Brigid later became the Front-End Manager. After Heartland was purchased by Purity Supreme, she stayed on as a Customer Service Manager. Later when Purity Supreme merged with Stop & Shop she returned to Bookkeeping and eventually retired as an Office Manager in 2006.

As a fiercely independent woman, in 2009, Brigid moved to Oak Point in Middleborough. There she continued her interest in gardening and also took up new hobbies of tap dancing and foreign languages. Always one to relish a challenge, she developed an interest in jogging at the age of 70. She also overcame her fear of dogs and found a special fondness for German Shepherds, as she loved playing with her grand dogs, Mojo and Kai. Always one to lend a hand, Brigid was proud of her new community and volunteered at the Middleborough Council on Aging. She was also very proud of her Irish heritage and kept keenly in touch with her roots.

Beloved wife of the late Wilhelm Alan Harold Wood.
Loving mother of Mark J. Wood and his wife Meagan of Walpole.
