Blanche A. Murphy, age 88, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, with her loving family by her side. Born in Boston on December 31, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Irene (Coughlin) Rettman. She was raised in Dedham, Massachusetts with her four siblings, and graduated from Girls Latin High School with the Class of 1950. Upon her graduation, Blanche took a secretarial position with a Boston law firm.
Blanche's love story began while she was still in high school, at the age of sixteen. While attending church as Saint Mary's in Dedham one Sunday morning with her sister, Barbara, she was introduced to a young man named John A. "Jake" Murphy. The couple dated for eight years, waiting until Jake was discharged from the service, before getting married in Saint Mary's Church in Dedham on April 30, 1955. They spent a year in West Roxbury before settling in Walpole, Massachusetts, where Blanche took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. Blanche took great pride in her home in Walpole, ensuring everything was in place and her flower gardens were well manicured. While Blanche was particular about her home, she was equally particular about the way she looked when stepping out. She loved to shop for new outfits or accessories to be sure she always looked her absolute best.
Throughout her life, Blanche was an avid Boston sports fan and loved following the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. She also enjoyed watching game shows and trying her luck to find a winning scratch ticket. However, most of all, it was her family that she loved most. She looked forward to spending time surrounded by those she loved most and was delighted to see her family grow with the birth of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To celebrate Blanche's love for others, her family asks that everyone perform an act of kindness in her honor.
