BETTY THAYER JOHNSON Quilter, Walpole Women's Club Officer

Betty Johnson's greatest joy in life was designing and sewing quilts for her family. This wonderful hobby ended when she died in Harrington House on September 22, 2007, resulting from a stroke she suffered on Friday a week earlier.

A forty year resident of Walpole, she was born in Waterville, Maine in 1925, daughter of Frank & Marian Thayer. She was an accounting graduate of Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

She married Edwin R. Johnson in 1949. When her children reached Walpole High School she joined Pilgrim Instruments and Controls in East Walpole and worked for over twenty years as Assistant Treasurer of that firm.

Mrs. Johnson was Second Vice President of the Walpole Women's Club, a member of the Rhododendron Quilt Guild, a member of the New England Quilt Museum, and the Massachusetts Mayflower Society. She was a member of the United Church in Walpole and enjoyed knitting prayer shawls at church.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, son Thomas of Walpole, daughter Elizabeth Kohn and her husband Peter of Marlborough, granddaughters Jennifer and Heather both of Marlborough, also survived by a sister Jane T. Wuorio of Central Village, Connecticut. She is pre deceased by a brother Larry Thayer.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the United Church in Walpole 30 Common Street Walpole on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 26, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment in Evergreen Cemetery Central Village, Connecticut on Friday, September 28, 2007 at 11AM. Memorial donations may be made to The United Church in Walpole 30 Common Street Walpole, Massachusetts 02081.
