Beth (Story) Miga, RN, age 84, passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, on Monday, September 19, 2022, at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Gardiner, Maine on September 16, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Henry and Ruth Ann (Staples) Story. She was raised in Auburn, Maine, where she graduated from the Edward Little High School with the Class of 1955. Following her graduation, Beth traveled to Massachusetts, starting her education at the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. After completing her studies in 1959, Beth earned the title of Registered Nurse and began her employment with Lynn Hospital.
While working at Lynn Hospital, Beth met her husband to be, John Paul Miga. Beth and Paul were married on May 26, 1962, in Lewiston, Maine and made their home together in Wakefield, Massachusetts. A short time later, the couple relocated to Cape Cod, settling in West Yarmouth, and Beth took a nursing position with the Cape Cod Hospital. As she began welcoming her children, Beth left her working career to take on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. In the mid-1960s, Beth and Paul moved their family off the Cape, initially making their home in Norwood, before settling in Walpole in 1971. Once her children reached school age, Beth returned to her nursing career, taking a position with Norwood Hospital. As a woman with the biggest heart, she was known around the hospital for the compassionate care she gave to all her patients over the years, always thinking of others before herself. Beth retired in 2001, after forty-three years of dedicated service to the healthcare community in the various hospitals that she worked in. In her retirement, Beth looked forward to taking an active role in raising her grandchildren. She could often be found attending one of their concerts or sporting events.
When she wasn't hard at work, as a true New Englander, Beth enjoyed following her hometown teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. However, spending time with her family and close friends, Nancy Munro, Diane Gustin, Carol St. Cyr, and Irene Ryan always took precedence. As a kind, thoughtful, and loving woman, Beth touched the hearts of all who knew her and will be dearly missed by those she loved.
Few people could boast the courage, determination, and indomitable spirit that let her survive where lesser souls would have given up. May God give her peaceful repose in his blessed arms in recognition of all that she endured on earth, always with character, dignity, hope, and grace.
