Bertha Jean Hertzberg

January 5, 1937 — May 25, 2015

Bertha Jean (Altobello) Hertzberg, age 78, died in the Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Massachusetts on Monday, May 25, 2015. Born in Dedham, Massachusetts on January 5, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lucy (Etzdorf) Altobello. She was raised in Dedham and graduated from Dedham High School with the Class of 1955. After high school, she took a position with Liberty Mutual.

On May 5, 1960, Bertha married the love of her life, Richard E. Hertzberg and they initially made their home in Readville. She left the working world, to raise and care for her young family and Bertha and Richard settled in Sharon, Massachusetts in 1963. While living in Sharon, Bertha became a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon for 2 years and was a member of the Dorcus Group.

Once her children were all attending school, Bertha returned to the working world, taking a position in the early 1970's with the Henry S. Wolkins School Supply Company. After working there for a period of 3 years, she went on to become the Executive Secretary for the Vice President of Fund Raising at the Norwood Hospital.

After her retirement in 1997, Bertha and Richard moved to Wareham, where they loved walking along the Cape Cod Canal together. As snow birds, they loved spending their winters together at their second home in Saint Petersburg, Florida, where Bertha would routinely walk 4 miles per day and loved watching the dolphins in the bay at John's Pass.

Bertha loved staying active and enjoyed crocheting, baking, sewing, embroidery work, and tending to her flowers garden. She was very talented with her knitting needles and made many hats for babies and chemotherapy patients. As a dedicated member of her Wareham Community, she would regularly volunteer her time at the Tobey Hospital.
