Barbara A. Levya

January 27, 1930 — May 14, 2016

Barbara A. (Ross) Levya, age 86, passed away in her New Durham, New Hampshire home on Saturday, May 14, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Edith (Carr) Ross. She was raised in Norwood, Massachusetts, graduating from Norwood High School with the Class of 1948.

On February 26, 1949, Barbara married George H. Levya, Jr. in Norwood and together, they made their home in Norfolk. After 2 short years, they bought their home on Lincoln Road in Walpole and Barbara took on the role of a homemaker, raising and caring for her young family. As a loving mother, Barbara always made time to attend her three children's various sporting events and activities, providing them with encouragement. Her family oriented life was evident in her traditional Sunday dinners with her family as well as the many car trips that allowed her to show her family the United States and some of Canada.

After purchasing a small cottage in New Durham, New Hampshire in 1973, Barbara and George took their family north most weekends, eventually converting the cottage into a second home. Barbara loved spending time on Lake Merrymeeting and after purchasing a boat in the late 1980's, Barbara enjoyed touring the lake with her husband at the helm. In 1993, Barbara realized her dream of living full time at her home in New Durham.

As a young woman, she would often go shopping, however, rarely purchased anything, as the trip was more social, allowing her to talk to everyone in and around the store. Barbara was an avid reader and loved taking a good book on her many cruise vacations. She was not always silently reading, for whenever the Bruins, Red Sox, or Patriots were on, she could be found following them on the television, cheering her hometown team on to victory.

Family was always most important, she loved spending time with everyone at their lake home. Once her grandchildren were born, Barbara became a very proud Nana, being sure to attend all of their events, just as she did with her own children in years past.

Beloved wife of George H. Levya, Jr.
Loving mother of Karen Murphy and her husband John of Walpole, Kevin Levya-Gardner and his wife Brenda of Cincinnati, and Kim Levya and his wife Joanne of Walpole.
Cherished Nana of Alyssa, Alex, Ryan, Danielle, Ashley, and Michael and Great Nana of Emma.
Sister of Paul Ross of Florida, the late Dorothy Smith, the late Norman Ross, and the late Elizabeth Sparrow.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
