Audrey J. Philbrick, age 59, passed away in the Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Massachusetts on Monday, August 10, 2015. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 17, 1956, she was raised in West Roxbury. She graduated from Elizabeth Seton High School in Wellesley Hills, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, with the class of 1973.
After graduation, Audrey took a position with the City of Boston as a pre school teaching assistant in the Hyde Park Municipal Building. While working there, she began taking courses at Boston State College, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology in 1981, graduating with honors. She was honored with a scholarship for academic excellence from the Psychology Department, allowing her to pursue her Paralegal Certificate in 1982 at The American Institute for Paralegal Studies in Newton Highlands.
Audrey began her career working for the Federal Government in the United States Postal Service's General Mail Facility in Boston as an accounting technician. While working for the Post Office, she relocated to Canton, Massachusetts and began to pursue her degree at Bentley College. She graduated with her Certificate in Accounting with high honors in 1997.
After qualifying in Washington, DC at the Government Financial Insititute, Audrey earned a position with the US Treasury as a Financial Auditor. Her duties included working on financial audits in the Treasury Department throughout the United States.
Audrey settled in Walpole, Massachusetts in 2005, and in 2007, she transferred from the Treasury Department to the Veterans Administration. Her career with the VA began at the Jamaica Plain VA Hospital and she later moved to the West Roxbury Campus. Most recently she served as a management analyst. Audrey earned several citations and awards for her outstanding work with the VA, finishing more than 30 years of service with the Federal Government.
Audrey was an avid Red Sox Fan and enjoyed outdoor activities, especially golf and tennis. In addition, she had a special talent for sewing, quilting, and macrame. Most recently she took up playing the piano, which brought her great joy.
Devoted daughter of the late James R. and Dorothea C. (Sullivan) Philbrick.
Loving sister of Janet M. Wellock and her husband Brad of Walpole and the late Elaine P. Philbrick.
Loving partner of Bill Kennedy of Walpole.
Cherished aunt of Lauren Cunningham and her husband Scott of Plymouth, James Wellock of Cambridge, and Keith Wellock of Walpole and great aunt of Joseph and Samantha Cunningham of Plymouth.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Audrey's Life Celebration on Thursday, August 13, 2015 from 4-8 PM and Friday, August 14, 2015 from 9-9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph's Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Rosie's Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118.
