Dr. Ashok K. Kapoor, age 81, passed peacefully on Monday, March 20th, 2023 in his home in Milton, Massachusetts surrounded by his loving family. Born in Delhi, India on March 30th, 1941, Ashok was the son of the late Bihari Lal Kapoor and Jai Rani (Mehra) Kapoor.
Ashok followed his dreams being the first in his family to immigrate to America after forming connections at the American Embassy. In 1970, he and his wife Meena, along with two month old son Alok came to the United States. With nothing more than two suitcases and hearts full of determination and courage they aspired to build a life of opportunity, centered on family, life-long friendships, and togetherness. Ashok was a Professor of Finance and Economics for more than fifty years in various Universities including University of Minnesota, Dickinson College, Marist College, Metropolitan State and Augsburg University . He impacted the lives of business students all over even teaching remotely this year through his many health challenges. Throughout Ashok’s journey in academia he supported his two children and Mother and sisters back in India. After many years of perseverance, he successfully completed his Doctorate degree from Temple University in 1994.
Ashok was an avid reader, with a profound love of books on religions of the world, economics and politics, travel and health. He was always willing to share a story or lesson from his latest read broadening all of our knowledge and perspective of the world. He shared these perspectives and principles of cherishing family every day with his children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. His generosity to the family was endless in many ways, and he always reinforced the importance of education and their ability to do anything they set their mind to. He instilled confidence in everyone he encountered, a stable of support and positivity to the family he built. Ashok was a devoted family man and nothing made him feel more blessed than to watch his family grow.
Beloved husband to Meena (Mehra) Kapoor for 55 years. Loving Father of Alok K. Kapoor and his late wife Karrie (Liporto) Kapoor of Milton, MA and Daughter Aarti (Kapoor) Comstock of South Salem, NY. Brother to his adored sisters Krishna Mahajan (deceased), Archana Grover, wife of Vinod Grover, and Sujata Rai, wife of Narender Rai.
Cherished Grandfather to Raj, Nikhil and his wife Jacquelin, Margaret, and Ajay Kapoor of Monroe Township, Elizabeth Kapoor of Milton, and Ryan, Samantha and Deven Comstock of South Salem. And devoted and loving Uncle to Nameet, Sameer, Puja, Umesh, Anu, Anuranjan, Suverchala, Nivedita, Soni, Sumit, Chintu and Amit and their spouses and many great grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole on Saturday, March 25, 2023, starting at 10:30 AM. A memorial service and visitation period will follow before proceeding to the Woodlawn North Purchase Cemetery, 825 North Main Street, Attleboro, where a brief cremation service will be held.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Ashok’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association , or the Karrie Kapoor Cellular Immunotherapy Fund honoring Ashok’s beloved late daughter-in-law Karrie.
