Arthur V. Sullivan

Shortly after establishing his career with the Union, Sully was set up on a blind date with Kathleen A. Sullivan.  In order to establish a second date, he waited for her after a Christmas Mass, offering to walk her home.  Sully and Kathleen were married on July 4, 1963 in Blessed Sacrament Church in Jamaica Plain.  After a short time in Jamaica Plain, the young couple made their home in West Roxbury, where they welcomed their children, Karen, Gail, William, and Brian.  In 1979, Sully moved his family to Walpole, Massachusetts, building a home on South Street.  Even after moving out of the city, he remained committed to his Union, retiring in 1993 after 32 years of dedicated service.

As a lifelong hockey fan, Sully regularly cheered on his home team, the Boston Bruins, and loved the opportunity to teach his beloved game to his children and grandchildren.  His second love was for the ocean.  As a young man, he took his boat out into Quincy Harbor as often as he could, while later in life, he grew fond of Mayflower Beach in Dennis on Cape Cod.  Sully enjoyed being outdoors, whether catching fish or taking nature walks through the woods observing all of the natural beauty.  His carpentry skills came home with him in his retirement as he enjoyed spending time in his workshop, creating wonderful works of wood, including various bird houses for his backyard.  Sully’s skills did not stop with wood working however, he could be found making repairs to his cars in his driveway as well.  Most of all, Sully was a dedicated family man, who cherished the time spent surrounded by those he loved.  He was absolutely delighted at the birth of his grandchildren, always spending time to play with them, walk them to school, and give them advice.

Loving father of Karen A. Drinkwater and her husband, Gerald, of Walpole, Gail M. Sarnie and her husband, George, of Walpole, William A. Sullivan and his fiancé, Dianna Cornetti, of Walpole, and Brian J. Sullivan and his wife, Colleen, of Walpole.

Cherished grandfather of Daniel and his wife, Leora, Drinkwater, Joseph Drinkwater, Robert Drinkwater, Ashley Sarnie, Katie Sarnie, Shawn Sarnie, Meghan Sullivan, Emily Sullivan, and Caroline Sullivan.

Devoted son in law of the late William and Anne Sullivan.

Brother of Paul Sullivan of Sandwich, the late Jean Boyle, and the late Ann Sullivan.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Sully’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM and Thursday, February 28, 2019 from 9 to 9:30 AM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
