Arthur G. St. Germain, age 100, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans' Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, Florida.  Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on April 19, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Frances (White) St. Germain.  Arthur spent his early years growing up in Milbury, Massachusetts and Danforth, Maine, before his family settled in Hingham, Massachusetts.  After graduating from Hingham High School with the Class of 1942, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II.  He was stationed in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, on Mactan Island in the Philippines, throughout the war.  Upon his return home from the Navy, Arthur took advantage of the GI Bill to pursue studies in Aviation Engineering at Boston University and went on to earn his pilot's license.  At the same time, Arthur's career with the International Brotherhood of Operating Engineers, Local 4 in Boston, began.  As a crane operator, Arthur was instrumental in the building and completion of many projects in and around the City of Boston.

Arthur married his beloved wife, Lillian Knowles, on July 14, 1951, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Medford, Massachusetts.  The couple made their home together in Sharon, Massachusetts, where they raised three children, Lawrence, Susan, and Carol.  After settling in Sharon, Arthur became very involved in his new community.  He served as a special police officer with the Sharon Police Department for many years and volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader.  Arthur was devoted to his church, Our Lady of Sorrows, where he sat in the same seat every Sunday.

Arthur's career continued with the Local 4 for many years, spending a year working in Saudi Arabia before his retirement in 1986.  In his retirement, Arthur began working as a security guard at the Boston College Library, ensuring the building, staff, and students were safe.  In the mid-1990s, Arthur moved to Melrose, Massachusetts, helping to care for his father as he grew older.  More recently, Arthur made his home in Florida, enjoying the sun and warmth of Port Charlotte.  Once settled in Port Charlotte, Arthur found his spiritual home with the Knights of Columbus, Council 7997, enjoying the fellowship with his brothers in Christ.

Most of all, Arthur loved spending time with his family, inviting them to visit his home in Florida and showing off his most recently completed puzzle.  Arthur's greatest passion was making Rosary Beads, a skill he learned as a guard at Boston College. Over the years he handmade thousands and donated many of them to churches for First Communion classes, as well as passing them out to his family and friends. Just this past year, Arthur was honored by having his name and photo on the Smucker's Jelly Jar to celebrate his 100th birthday.
