Arthur J. Gorham, age 79, passed away in the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts on Friday, August 21, 2015. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 11, 1936, he was the son of the late Arthur and Theresa (Bernard) Gorham. He attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain before moving to Norfolk, Massachusetts in 1953. A year later in 1954, Arthur graduated from Walpole High School. After graduation, Arthur proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Japan for a year and was honorably discharged in May of 1958 as Airman 1st Class.
After his discharge, Arthur settled in New York and earned a position with United Press International. After moving back to Boston, he began to pursue his love of cooking. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Boston before graduating from Newbury College's Culinary Program. He later graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, California. He began working for Sodexo as a chef servicing Bridgewater State College. He later took a position with the Copley before moving to the Longfellow Wayside Inn.
Arthur was an avid follower of all sports, espeically enjoyed following the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed painting, mainly in the Abstract Expressionist Style. Arhtur loved all animals and leaves behind his 2 cats, his beloved Suzie and Billi.
Brother of Edward and his wife Patricia Gorham of Bourne, Paul Gorham of Yelm, WA, the late James Gorham and the late Daniel Gorham.
Devoted son of the late Arthur J. and Theresa B. (Bernard) Gorham.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the graveside service that will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, McArthur Blvd, Bourne on Wednesday at 12:30PM. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: American Cancer Society, 25 Stuart Street Boston, MA 02116 or the Mass Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals c/o MSPCA-Angell, 350 S.
