Arthur "Artie" Brooks

February 18, 1927 — March 17, 2015

Arthur Brooks, age 88, died unexpectedly in his South Yarmouth, Massachusetts home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Born in Norwood, Massachusetts on February 18, 1927, he was the son of the late John Joseph and Gertrude E. (Barrett) Brooks. He was raised in South Walpole, Massachusetts and attended Walpole High School with the class of 1945. He enjoyed playing baseball and hockey. During his senior year, Artie joined the United States Army to serve during World War II. He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged in 1946 after attaining the rank of Corporal. After his return from the Army, Artie attended night school to complete his High School Diploma. In 1951, Artie began his career with Bird and Son in South Norwood as a machine operator.

Artie married the love of his life, Mary E. Langille, on October 21, 1951 and together they made their home in Norwood, before moving back to South Walpole. As he and his wife welcomed their sons, Rick and Kerry, Artie began climbing the ladder at Bird and Son, finally becoming the Shift Foreman, prior to leaving in 1971. At this time, he took a position with Knox Norton on Route 1 in Walpole as the shipping coordinator where he worked until 1974. After leaving Knox Norton, he took on the position of manager for his real estate property in South Walpole until moving to South Yarmouth in 2004.

As his working career began to wind down, Artie joined the Masons, becoming a member of the Azure Lodge in Walpole and later joined the Shriners in Boston. After moving to Cape Cod, he joined the local Howard Lodge. In his spare time, Artie was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cribbage. He will be remembered for his generous and giving spirit and his ability to have fun telling jokes.

Loving father of Rick Brooks and his wife Sheree of Houston, TX, and son Kerry Brooks and his wife Judy of Houston, TX.
Cherished grandfather of Stephanie S. Brooks of New York and Eric A. Brooks of Houston, TX.
Brother of the late Joseph Brooks, the late James Brooks, the late John Brooks, the late Leo Brooks, Edward Brooks of Canton, Theodore Brooks of Medfield, the late Robert Brooks, the late Gertrude Shields, Catherine Lakkso of Medfield, Patricia Dewar of East Falmouth, and Donald Brooks of FL.
Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Artie's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 2-6 P.M. in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, Walpole. His funeral service will be held in the Epiphany Episcopal Church, 62 Front Street, Walpole on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. A reception will follow post internment at Demetri's, 2 Washington Street (Route 1), Foxboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Help Hospitalized Veterans, P.O. Box 98088, Washington, DC 20090.
