Althea J. (Hand) Bishop age 89 years died in the Harrington House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Walpole, Massachusetts on Friday, July 6, 2012. Born in Ashepoo, South Carolina on September 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Aquilla Mason and Eugenie (Harris) Hand. She graduated from Hardeeville High School in South Carolina with the class of 1940. Mrs. Bishop proudly served her country in the United State Army Air Corps during World War II. She went on to graduate from Boston University with the class of 1949. She has been a resident of East Walpole, Massachusetts for the past 7 years moving there from Everett, Massachusetts.
She was an administrative assistant at the John W. Hamilton Company in Everett for over 30 years.
Mrs. Bishop was a member of the Eastern Star and an active member of the United Church in Everett. She enjoyed traveling across the world with her husband after their retirement.
Beloved wife of the late Leonard G. Bishop. Loving mother of Allen L. and his wife Valerie J. (Conway) Bishop of East Walpole and the late William L. Bishop. Cherished grandmother of Joshua Bishop and Rebecca L. Bishop both of East Walpole. Sister of the late Aquilla M. Hand,Jr and the late Ethel Pinckney.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral service in the United Church 30 Common Street Walpole on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 11AM. Visiting hours are Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 3 to 6PM in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. Interment will be private.
