Alfred Cabral

August 10, 1922 — April 18, 2017

Alfred Cabral, age 94, passed away in the Norwood Hospital on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts on August 10, 1922, he was the son of the late Luiz and Antonia (Camara) Cabral. He was raised and educated in Fall River, where as a boy he loved playing baseball with the CYO team of Saint Michael's Parish. While attending Durfee High School, his father passed away, and in an effort to support his mother, Alfred left school to enter the working world. After the outbreak of World War II, Alfred enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his country in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theater of Operations. Upon his discharge in 1946, he returned home to Fall River and began working as a brick mason.

In 1948, Alfred took a position with the Massachusetts State Police as a State Trooper. Two years later, on May 20, 1950, he married his wife, Josephine F. Kissel, in Saint Mary's Church in East Walpole. They young couple initially made their home in East Walpole and in 1955 he built his family a home in Sharon, just over the Walpole town line. His career flourished with the State Police and he was promoted to Sergeant before earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his retirement in 1968, Alfred continued working as a police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for an additional 18 years, retiring in 1988.

Alfred loved caring for his yard and tending to his garden. As an avid swimmer, he enjoyed spending time in the ocean or in his own pool. He was a proud retired State Trooper and enjoyed catching up with old friends at the annual retiree's banquet, but also enjoyed quiet time too, reading about history and geography. Most important to Alfred was his family, he cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandson.
